Famous Bollywood movie director and producer Karan Johar is in the news for his step against a Bollywood film.
On Wednesday Karan Johar moved to the Bombay High Court against the makers of a movie named “Shadi ke Director Karan aur Johar”. A movie that has Karan and Johar, two eccentric wedding planners, who negotiate the turmoil and humor of planning the most lavish weddings.
He requested the court to prevent the makes of this Hindi film from using his name in their movie title. Karan said that if has no involvement in the movie and has no connection with its makers then they can’t be using his name unlawfully in the title.
The plea mentioned an urgent stay on the film release scheduled for 14th June 2024. The bench has agreed to hear the plea on Thursday.
What did Karan Johar Claim?
Johar highlighted the film title that has his name directly mentioned. That is violating his rights and rights to privacy and publicity. He claimed filmmakers are attacking his reputation and goodwill by using his name in their movie titles.
The suit pointed out that the movie is set to release on June 14, 2024, and its posters and trailer have already been distributed on social media and public. Johar claimed that these promotional materials were misusing his name and causing irreparable damage to his image.
These promotional materials have caused and will continue to cause a loss to the goodwill of Johar. And the release of the movie with his brand name will further cause irreparable loss to Johar’s reputation.
What does Karan want?
Karan Johar doesn’t want his name to be used without his consent. According to him, he has worked hard and honestly to gain whatever he has today. Karan made his name a brand by investing a huge amount of effort, time, and money. And now he is not ready to let others take benefit of his brand name.
Karan wants the court to take action against the filmmakers of the Hindi movie “Shadi ke Director Karan aur Johar” and make them remove his name from their movie title.
